Years working at SAMS:

Since 1988

What do you love most about SAMS?

I love that SAMS is a special part of my life, not just a job. Working in a beautiful, clean, lively, orderly and welcoming environment is something I greatly appreciate. The best part is the camaraderie of the staff and the joyfulness of the children.

What are your hobbies?

Many of the things I enjoy away from SAMS are outdoors. Whether it be playing tennis, pickleball or swimming I love being outside. As a child my grandmother would hit tennis balls with me, I didn’t realize then that I would love tennis as much as I do now and it has gone full circle as I share tennis with my grandchildren.

What's your favorite children’s book?

My favorite children’s book as a child was The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Now as a grandmother one of my favorites is Bella’s Fall Coat by Lynn Plourde. Such a sweet story about love, adventure, and growth.

"I’m so fortunate to work in an environment filled with smiles, laughter, and hugs! Even though my work is primarily in the office I have opportunities to interact with the children, see their accomplishments, and watch them grow and become confident contributors. For me, it’s the respectful and thoughtful nature of Montessori that I value most. Working with and within the special SAMS community continues to be an extremely rewarding experience."

- Sherie Shughart

“It brings me great joy to share in the children’s excitement and discoveries of the natural world around them, and to observe the magic of nature through their eyes.”

- Amy Goldman

"Year after year I’ve been lucky enough to watch each child blossom, discover and inspire themselves and each other with a passion like no other. Working at SAMS is truly a reward. "

- Rita Valerie

"SAMS is such a fulfilling place to work and a wonderful community to be a part of. In our garden classroom, I love seeing the children become deeply connected with a space as it changes throughout the seasons. I am grateful to be part of their learning in such a unique environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, hard work, and an appreciation for the natural world. "

- Maitland Ianiri

"SAMS embodies Dr. Montessori’s vision for children’s foundational years. I appreciate that our community holds a space of healthy reverence for children to grow into the most educated, gracious, authentic version of themselves. Our daily practices at SAMS lovingly guide children in the challenges of successful living. Together, we are an aid to the child, and an education for life."
